Can thought become communication?
Years ago, watching someone I loved become too weak to speak left me with a question: if the mind is still present, could technology give it another way to communicate?
That question eventually brought telecommunications, electrical engineering and neuroscience into the same conversation.

Can we harness the storm?
Years ago, I was caught in a severe flood with a family member. We climbed out through a car window and, waist-deep in water, pushed the vehicle toward safety while electrical transformers were blowing above us.
Surrounded by that much water and energy, I remember thinking about the waste. Could stormwater be captured, treated and redirected toward potable-water systems? Could some of the energy associated with lightning be captured? What can extreme winds from hurricanes and tornadoes teach us about generation, capture and storage?
I don't assume every idea will prove practical. That's what makes it worth investigating: start with the question, study the existing science, understand the constraints, test the concept and let the evidence shape the conclusion.
